evelyn by Nicola Simbari sold for $5,040 at Doyle’s Fine Art Auctions in February. 23, 2022 in New York City. Born in Calabria, Italy, and raised in Rome, where his father was an architect for the Vatican, Simbari was strongly influenced by both cities. His paintings often feature geometric forms, reminiscent of the Calabrian coastline, drawing inspiration from Rome’s architecture, bright colors and blue oceans.
Simbari’s early subjects featured everyday scenes from his childhood, from fishing towns to the countryside, and he continued to paint and be inspired by his surroundings throughout his career. His use of color and texture (he painted with a palette knife technique) brought him instant success at a young age, with many of his paintings appearing in collections around the world to this day.
