Former LPL CIO Bert White to Lead Strategy at Carson Group
Bert White, who served as Chief Investment Officer at LPL Financial for the past 14 years, joins the Omaha-based Carson Group as Managing Partner and Chief Strategy Officer. White will also sit on Carson’s executive board along with CEO Ron Carson, co-chairs Terry Shepherd and Aaron Schaben, Managing Partner Jamie Hopkins and CFO Nick Engelbart.
White, who oversaw LPL’s transformation of technology, announced that he would be retiring from the independent broker/dealer last August. The LPL is expected to name a replacement for White in a few weeks.
“We thank Burt for his contribution to the LPL over the past 14 years and wish him well,” said LPL spokeswoman Shannon Greene.
Since 2017, White has been a leading figure in some renaissance in the rebuilding of LPL’s technology stack and has been closely associated with the multiple rollouts of its ClientWorks platform over the years.
Carson’s wealth management division previously had a long-standing relationship with LPL, using it for custody and brokerage. But the firm decided to move its affiliation to Setera in early 2017. In 2018, Ron Carson announced that it would drop its individual FINRA registration and register a limited-purpose broker/dealer to purchase legacy, commission-based assets from anyone. Their Carson Group network consists of over 80 advisory firms that want to go for a fee-only basis.
In his new role, White will be responsible for the firm’s growth initiatives in both corporate and investment strategy and the transformation of its investment platform. “He will continue to advance the company’s digital client experience to redefine how the industry shows and talks about money,” the company said in a statement.
“We have a great opportunity to elevate our industry-leading wealth management offering and bring the Carson brand and platform to a place where top advisors come to listen, learn and partner,” White said in a statement. ”
Carson currently serves 120 partners who manage $20 billion in total customer assets.
White, who lives in Charlotte, NC, will not be relocating to Omaha for the role.
