This is a substantial portion of the total $750 billion that was donated in the year (excluding those given by corporations and governments).
The growth of philanthropy by the UHNW population was 4.1% in 2020 from the previous year, outpacing the increase in giving from those not living in that group.
Contributions from the super-rich and their private foundations accounted for a substantial 36% of all contributions by private individuals in 2020.
North America contributed $90.5 billion to more than half of all UHNW individual donations. Europe is second with $51.7 billion and Asia’s wealthiest people donated $21.5 billion.
Men made up 10 of 10 UHNW philanthropists in 2020, but donations by women are more prevalent, partly due to an increase in the number of female entrepreneurs. The report also highlights the growing collaboration among women philanthropists.
