Lineup pending collaboration with Emerging Markets Impact Fund
“The fund maintains Pender’s investment philosophy of investing in solid companies with the aim of providing risk-adjusted returns from emerging markets, in this case significant, risk-adjusted returns from emerging markets,” Perez-Couts said. “And to make such investments more sustainable and rewarding, the fund aims to complement its mix with impact-type investments, thus providing social and environmental, as well as financial returns.”
Joining Perez-Cotts on the team is Aman Wednesday, who has more than 20 years of global investing experience, and Phil Stafford, who has nearly 40 years of experience in emerging markets. Over the many years of working together, they have refined their investment strategy and will continue to expand their experience and ability to invest in emerging markets.
“The fund maintains Pender’s investment philosophy of investing in solid companies with the aim of providing, in this case, risk-adjusted returns from emerging markets that exceed, significantly, their cost of capital,” Perez-Couts said. “And to make such investments more sustainable and rewarding, the fund aims to complement its mix with impact-type investments, thus providing social and environmental, as well as financial returns.”
While the fund aims to produce returns from the economic growth and profitability of developing market companies, its mandate recognizes that such growth cannot come at the expense of the environment or society.
Perez-Couts is incorporating an environmental, social and governance (ESG) impact component, which will help investors make more money. She will examine companies that could be potential fund targets in a new light, paying particular attention to their impact on both the business model and long-term returns.
