Why technology, media and telecommunications remain top portfolio picks

Apple is the world’s most valuable brand, worth US$355.1 billion, based on a ranking methodology that considers changes in brand characteristics as a result of market valuations and specific actions taken by marketing and other corporate managers .

The top spot for Apple has been retained and strengthened, with brand value increasing 35% year-on-year and a new record high for the rankings.

The technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) sector includes Amazon ($350.3 billion), and Google ($263.4 billion) in second place, 7 of the top 10 spots, although the report places Amazon at retail.

Microsoft, Samsung, Facebook, Huawei and Verizon also figure in the top 10, with Walmart and Chinese banking conglomerate ICBC being the only two firms not from the TMT sector to form the elite group.
